Some are day trip but well worth it. One trip I planned when I was a summer camp director was to the Illinois Railway Museum. Awesome place, impressive trains and great history. I recommend the lodge for dinner -- we had great steaks there. Would love to go back. Another day trip I loved while living in Chicago is the Indiana Dunes.
