Tick-Tock-Tick-Tock
We’re a society of time. And to measure time we feel the need to have clocks. Let me give you an example of how our mania for time surrounds us. This is a list of the time keeping devices in our 625 square foot apartment:
- Laptops (3)
- Desktops/Servers (3)
- Chumby (1)
- Kitchen (4) : Rice Maker, Microwave, Convection Oven, Coffee Maker
- TV (3) : DVD Player, TV, Remote Control
- Cell Phones (3)
- Digital (4) : Bathroom, Bedroom, Living Room
- Video Games (3) : Nintendo DS, PSP
- Small Audio/Video (5) : Archos Player, iPods, eBook
- Wristwatches (2)
- Specialty (1) : Analog Meter Clock, Batman Clock
That’s thirty three devices, eight of which are dedicated to timekeeping. Even beyond that, there are things which are able to measure time, such as our other TV and a fan, both of which have timed shut-off. Plus, you have things like kitchen timers (2), workout stopwatches (1), and the like. And then you have longer term devices, such as calendars (3).
Quite amazing.
