Oh The Sun--I can't wait for that subscription to run out. I mean, I still really appreciate the lack of ads and the occasional good piece of writing but jesus, just hand me the razor to slit my wrists now.

I think it really showed how bad school was that I still got all A's with 25+ days absent...or how SMRT I am :-P

I think people thrive on drama and feeling like their world is about to end. So no matter what, there is always something these drama queens will worry themselves to death over.

The graphic I mentioned was not in Wired, but in New Scientist. The June 21-27 issue has a lead story called "Hothouse Earth" with dinosaurs at the poles and other strange tales -- with the average temp of the upper 80s F for most of the planet.

LOL. Because perfect attendance = SMRT. The Nelsons are PROUD of their 25+ days of absences!

Yea, I agree about the climate stuff. You look at the record and you see that the antarctic was a frickin rain forest at one time (there's a good graphic in this months Wired).

Whatever the reason, I think that we're smart enough primates to figure out how to survive. We build climate controlled environments. We do some eco-engineering. We develop new tech to solve the problems. I just get sick of people saying WE'RE DOOMED -- like NOBODY is going to do ANYTHING about the problem. Screw that.

Now, I have no doubt that all the pollution we humans are tossing into the air are affecting the climate, but there is a theory that the current Holocene epoch is a geological and meteorological fiction, and that we have not actually ended the Pleistocene epoch, which was the last of the ice ages. In other words, the Earth has been a hell of lot hotter and more tropical in the not too distant past, and we could be ending a natural cold period in Earth's history. Of course, it is easier to panic than to go out and educate yourself. As a side rant to poor education -- Maybe if the CPS was busy teaching kids and not bribing them with cars for a lousy three months of perfect attendance, things might be a little better.
