Walk Score — Find a New Neighborhood
Speaking of Google Maps — Walk, I ran across a site called Walk Score. Plug in an address and it will calculate the “walkability” of your area. It basically looks for things like grocery stores, libraries, clothing, etc, that are in easy walking distance. The more of these things, the better.
Besides being a neat way of exploring areas, this seems like a great tool for determining if a new neighborhood is a good fit for you. For example, Evelyn and I are all about walking, so we want areas where we can. That means sidewalks, common places nearby, and so forth. Things are so much nicer when you can walk to get a loaf of bread, versus driving 10 minutes to a store.

Ha — My old house in Montgomery scored an 8 / 100!
My walk score is 45… I was rather upset with it. And I was surprised to know that there is another score called drive score to evaluate my house. I found the way to calculate it online at Fizber site (http://drivescore.fizber.com/ ).
I’ve got much better results – 51.
