Evelyn and I are on vacation this week, taking a well needed time away from the office and the stresses of home. It’s been a pretty brutal month. Lots of travel for me, a bad reaction to (now recalled) generic medications, and general insanity at work. It’s been a tough couple of weeks.

We started our travel today, leaving Austin at around 5:30 AM and arriving here in Tuscaloosa Alabama at 6 PM. The ride was pretty good. No backups for us (though west-bound looked bad at parts). Evelyn has spotted a good BBQ place here, so we’re going to try it out, then come back and get some rest.

Tomorrow will be our second day of travel, with a focus on Bacon. We’ll be stopping at Madisonville TN to check out Benton’s Smoky Mountain Ham, which has been well reviewed on-line and in the Art of Eating magazine. With any luck we’ll be able to pick up some good stuff. My plan is to eat 4 pounds of bacon before the week is out. Wish me luck.
