A Month

Published by Ron at 11:41 am under Austin,Shop Talk,Sustainable Urban Modules

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m starting to dream about coop building. This is not always a good thing. :-)

It seems like we’ve been working on the big prototype forever. But not really. I was shocked to see that this photo was taken on July 10th:

It’s when we were prototyping part of the design (“way back” when we were going to make the roof tilting).

And now here we are on August 7th:

Quite a bit done — most of the time was spent working through problems. And I was busy working for the Conservation District — a whole new application was built in this same time. No wonder I’m tired! :-)

I like the open can of beer on the table.

The cans did not go to waste. They went to make the storage panel! LOL. (Lone Star is like the PBR of Texas — though I’ve come to like drinking it on HOT days.)

The prototype is not stained. It’s natural cedar, which will go gray over time. We’re going back-and-forth whether we stain it or not. Though the part touching the ground will be protected (with boiled linseed oil).

    Hi Lyn!

Wow! You guys did a great job! This coop beats the hell out of the ones I have seen in Puerto Rico. The natural color it has is really nice. Are you going to send mom and dad a picture of it.
    It will blow them away.

Once we have it placed in the backyard, I’ll do a Demo Video
and send that to mom and dad instead of a photo.

Mom has an idea but I’m sure what she imagined is no where
near what we actually have done. :-)

    Video to come soon.

You guys did a really good job. Don’t let my dad see it. LOL

A 5 star hotel! Nothing beats natural wood with a touch of linseed to preserve it.
